French Foreign Minister: Iran "Plays A Stabilizing Role"

French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy on Iran's role in the Middle East (emphasis added):

"In the region there is of course a country such as Iran - a great country, a great people and a great civilization which is respected and which plays a stabilizing role in the region."

Is Iran playing a "stabilizing role" in Iraq? How about in Lebanon? Or among the large Shiite populations of western Saudi Arabia?
