Hamas & The Muslim Brotherhood

The indispensable Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) has posted "a closer, more accurate translation" of Hamas's charter. (Translated portions of the charter have appeared all over the web. But, I'll go with MEMRI's translation.) The most interesting part of the charter is the explicit recognition of Hamas's relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood:

The Islamic Resistance Movement is one of the wings of the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine. The Muslim Brotherhood movement is a global organization and is the largest of the Islamic movements in modern times. It is distinguished by its profound understanding and its conceptual precision and by the fact that it encompasses the totality of Islamic concepts in all aspects of life, in thought and in creed, in politics and in economics, in education and in social affairs, in judicial matters and in matters of government, in preaching and in teaching, in art and in communications, in secret and in the open, and in all other areas of life.

This is, of course, no secret. The Muslim Brotherhood is the mother organization for much of the modern Islamist terror network. Al Qaeda itself has countless ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Yet, these ties receive - comparatively speaking - relatively little attention.

One exception is this excellent piece by Lorenzo Vidino.

UPDATE: Scott at Power Line was already all over this one.
